The main objective of the articles presented in the special section of this review is to assess the contents of and experience with ‘‘new type’’ of Preferential Trade Agreements (PTAs) with a view to determining whether and under what conditions the new regionalisms of the two major players United States and the EU will be competitive or complementary and in particular how these two regionalisms will be in support of, or conflicting with, multilateral trade regime under the World Trade Organization (WTO) rule system.
