The article investigates the illumination produced in Rome in the international context of the court of Pope Boniface IX during the Schism. A group of manuscripts connected to the patronage of the pope and of his circle are examined, and a new attribution of the marginal drawings in the famous Chantilly Chansonnier is suggested; the different nationalities documented in the papal chancery and capel are shown to be reflected in the illumination produced in the years of Boniface’s papacy
L’articolo indaga la miniatura prodotta a Roma nel contesto internazionale della corte di Papa Bonifacio IX, durante lo Scisma. Viene analizzato un gruppo di manoscritti collegabili al pontefice e alla sua cerchia a viene proposta una nuova attribuzione per i disegni marginali del famoso Chansonnier di Chantilly. Dall’esame delle miniature emerge che il contesto internazionale documentato nella cancelleria e nella cappella del pontefice corrispondono all’ambiente internazionale attestato dai diversi artisti che hanno collaborato ai codici miniati nell’ambito di Bonifacio IX
