In recent years, Islam and Muslims are very significant in public debate, because of issues linked to international politics (Islamist terrorism, military interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq, etc..), and because of the radicalization of some positions in western countries about the challenges of cultural integration of immigrants (many of whom come from states with a Muslim majority). This salience in public discourse is accompanied by a widespread (and acknowledged, at least in the scientific literature) process of distortion of Islam, operated especially by mass-media.

Abstract
In recent years, Islam and Muslims are very significant in public debate, because of issues linked to international politics (Islamist terrorism, military interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq, etc..), and because of the radicalization of some positions in western countries about the challenges of cultural integration of immigrants (many of whom come from states with a Muslim majority). This salience in public discourse is accompanied by a widespread (and acknowledged, at least in the scientific literature) process of distortion of Islam, operated especially by mass-media.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
