The Authors present the results of a survey on the procedures used for the disinfection of endoscopes in a large roman hospital. Thirteen endoscopy centers were investigated and microbiological controls were carried out on the endoscopes, the disinfectants and the rinsing solutions used. The results show insufficient disinfection in several occasions because of a series of causes which are critically discussed.
