Abstract

A multiple-electrode cell with Y2O3-stabilized ZrO2 electrolyte is used to oxidize selected regions of a Ni-laminated disk by applying galvanostatic steps.  Reaction kinetics were studied by examg. the chronopotentiometric curve assocd. with a given current step.  The oxidn. rate and rate const. data are given for the temp. range 870-1100°, as well as the diffusion coeff. of Ni in NiO and elec. cond. values of the growing oxide scale.  The activation enthalpy for oxidn. is given as a function of the O partial pressure and the activation enthalpies for the cond., and the diffusion processes are also reported.  Some morphols. of the oxidized samples are shown, as obtained by SEM.
