Syringomycin (SR) structural analogues, deschloro- syringomycin (SRH) and its linear form, SRL, obtained by hydrolysis of the lactone ring, were compared in the membrane permeabilization activity. SRH was less active than the chlorinated SR in haemolytic activity assay and on liposomes.In the latter case, the influence of the presence of sterols was also observed. The lactone ring opening caused the complete loss of the membrane activity.
