The Ccr4–Not complex has originally been described as a negative regulator of RNA polymerase II (pol II) transcription, but it has also been implicated in mRNA turnover and protein ubiquitination. We found that not4 and ccr4 mutants have an extended longevity during chronological aging and an increased resistance to oxidative stress. This increased resistance is due only in part to the loss of control on MSN2/4-driven transcription in that triple mutants not4/msn2/4 still exhibit these phenotypes. Altogether these data support the idea that CCR4/NOT complex is important in keeping down stress response controlling cell proliferation.
