L’eccezionale sviluppo del World Wide Web ha radicalmente cambiato il modo di raccogliere, archiviare e ricercare tutte le informazioni. Non sfugge d’altra parte a questa regola il settore dei Beni Culturali: milioni le pagine web che propongono in rete i più disparati dati, da quelli più strettamente scientifici a quelli appannaggio dei turisti. Tuttavia le pagine web sono generalmente concepite più o meno come quelle di un libro; il livello d’interazione tra utente e informazioni è basso e spesso strettamente unidirezionale (solo downloading); nessuna interazione è di solito prevista tra utente ed utente. Si illustra un approccio che si fonda sull’idea che tra le n dimensioni che caratterizzano una realtà oggettiva, la sua forma geometrica costituisca la partenza più efficace e condivisa per l’esplorazione interattiva delle informazioni, in accordo con quanto comunemente utilizzato nei videogames. La memoria racconta brevemente il lavoro svolto nel quadro del progetto Unimed Cultural Heritage 2 finanziato dalla UE che ha consentito di riconvertire ad hoc i protocolli utilizzati nel settore dei videogiochi per ciò che attiene all’esplorazione ed interazione concurrent (più utenti insieme) e realtime via Internet di spazi virtuali 3D integrati da databases documentali. Vengono illustrati alcuni esempi prototipo relativi alla Villa dei Volusii presso Roma e a porzioni della cupola centrale di Hagia Sophia ad Istanbul. ++++++++++++++++++Whatever you would look for (from train timetable to pictures from Mars), the first thing you do is to enter the Internet. No doubt: the exceptional development of the World Wide Web has radically changed the way any information is gathered, archived and researched. The Cultural Assets field respects on his side this rule: there are millions of web pages proposing on the net the most different data, the scientific as well as the tourist ones. However this process, more or less anarchic and spontaneous up to now, start showing some important limits: web pages are in fact conceived like “book” pages (even if some figures can host different objects from classical text and images like for example animations or user query fields); interaction level between user and information is low and generally strictly unidirectional (downloading only); no interaction is usually available among users. The answer we imagined for these problems relies basically on the idea that among the n dimensions describing an object reality, its texturized geometric shape represents the most effective and shared starting point for the interactive exploration of its numerous information: a conclusion that we realized has been very well known for several years by all videogames hardware and software developers. This paper intends to briefly report the work carried on within the Unimed Cultural Heritage 2 Project funded by the European Union through which some videogames protocols have been adapted and modified for virtual spaces and connected databases exploration and concurrent (more than a user at a time) and realtime interaction via Internet. We shall then present some prototype examples for 3D Browsing concerning the Villa dei Volusii near Rome and some portions of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul central dome.
