A spectral domain analysis for the two-dimensional scattering problem of a plane wave by a set of dielectric circular cross-section cylinders, buried in a dielectric layer, is developed. An accurate theoretical model is developed, based on Cylindrical-Wave Approach (CWA). All the cylinder-cylinder and cylinder-interfaces interactions are taken into account, by means of generalized Reflected and Reflected-Transmitted Cylindrical Functions. The method has been implemented in a numerical code, which solves the scattering problem in both near and far field regions and in case of TE and TM polarizations. Numerical results are given for some scenarios of analysis by means of electromagnetic techniques. Finally, an example showing how cylindrical objects of arbitrary cross-section may be also simulated is reported. © 2010 IEICE Institute of Electronics Informati.
