Abstract

Perspective as symbolic form, Erwin Panofsky, is a wise man who has had great importance in the history and art criticism as in scientific historiography. As is well known, the central theme of this essay is the perspective and, in particular, its relationship with art. It must, therefore, be considered the prospect, in the context of art as a system of rules exactly, since the geometry that provides the theoretical framework, or rather as a style element, and therefore subject to free interpretation and constant reinvention? The application, which implicitly is given to the player, it is not trivial, because if you were to accept the first definition, correct geometric perspective may come as a criterion to measure the quality of the artwork. And 'this, in essence, the principle that disputes Panofsky, replacing it with a breath of something else: the prospect is an element of style, every time and every artist interprets and elaborates in his way. We can not share this thought and we must also recognize how much it has permeated our understanding of artistic expression and its libertà.C 'is, however, in the essay of Panofsky, even a less edifying, and is the ch 'he follows to reach the conclusion that we remembered. This way is to demolish the ability of legitimate prospect to reproduce human perception of space, to demonstrate, then, that other perspectives, based on different assumptions, can far better make the space visually. But, as the legitimate perspective is supported by a substantial scientific apparatus, if you want to criticize his credibility, it must do so with scientific arguments, and it is here that the author, in my opinion, blatantly wrong. He is wrong in the first place, method and logic, but also wrong because it relies on the essay task entirely improper: to undermine the concepts that no longer belong to art, but to science and its history.
