The book surveys the work of the German nun Rosvita against a historical and cultural background and highlights the rich cultural exchange between the remote region of Saxony – under the rule of Otto the Great – and many outstanding scholars from Italy in the tenth century. The impressive achievements of the ‘humble nun of Gandersheim’ may in fact be related to the learned milieu of Otto’s court and considered as the result of a peculiar merging of ethnic and cultural identity through Latin scholarship.

Abstract
The book surveys the work of the German nun Rosvita against a historical and cultural background and highlights the rich cultural exchange between the remote region of Saxony – under the rule of Otto the Great – and many outstanding scholars from Italy in the tenth century. The impressive achievements of the ‘humble nun of Gandersheim’ may in fact be related to the learned milieu of Otto’s court and considered as the result of a peculiar merging of ethnic and cultural identity through Latin scholarship.File allegati a questo prodotto
