The paper deals with corpus-assisted research into evaluation and stance about the specific topic of European Union enlargement. Articles from "Time" and "The Economist", in the period between 1999 and 2004, are analysed, combining quantitative research on frequency, occurrences and distribution of words, with qualitative research according to the criteria of discourse and genre analysis.
