This article analyses the cover of the first edition of the Four Books of Architecture by Andrea Palladio (1570), which firstly proposes an iconographic interpretation of its different elements –architectural and allegorical characters– and compares it to the cover of other similar contemporary treatises. Secondly, such analysis sets the basis for proposing a new rea-ding of colonial religious constructions, built during the period after the Conquest.
