The virgilian quotation in Sen. epist. 56, 12, which shows Aeneas fleeing Troy (Aen. 2, 726-729), is interpreted by Seneca firstly as an example of wisdom (when the hero is fearless), then of stupidity (when he fears for his father and son): a reversal of the topos of the pious Aeneas, which aims to highlight the importance of detachment from things and affections for the sage. A detachment that Seneca himself is not able to realize at the end of the letter.
La citazione virgiliana dell'epistola 56, 12 di Seneca, che mostra Enea in fuga da Troia (Aen. 2, 726-729), viene interpretata come esempio prima di saggezza (quando l'eroe è intrepido), poi di stoltezza (quando teme per il padre e il figlio): un rovesciamento del topos del pio Enea che mira a sottolineare l'importanza del distacco dalle cose e dagli affetti per il saggio. Un distacco che lo stesso Seneca smentisce al termine della lettera.
