Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the most important causes of morbidity and mortality in the Western world. Each year in the United States alone, more than two million people sustain a head trauma, and 10% of these injuries are fatal (1). Ten percent of survivors experience neurological defcits of varying degrees (2). It is estimated that as many as 5.3 million people are living in the United States with disability related to TBI, approximately 2% of the population. The leading cause of TBI is injury related to falls, followed by motor vehicle or traffc collisions, and external cause of being “struck by or against”.
