Asia, North America and Europe apply different standards to provide safety for electrical work. The progress of the electrical safety and sustainability for electrical works appear more and more a necessity since electrical installations are becoming complex systems especially for mission critical systems, microgrids and smart cities. The authors have analyzed basic standards such as European EN 50110, USA's NFPA70E, India's CEA Regulations and found that in spite of some diversities and different approaches, they lend themselves to a gradual coordination. Maintenance and safety audits have a great role in electrical safety. Workmen's competence is essential for the reduction of risks in the electrical operations. The efficacy of an operation and maintenance (O&M) that is compatible to business continuity management (BCM) principle is the basic component to control the electrical hazards including the loss of power supply continuity risks. Abstract

The paper highlights, as O&M has to adopt the continuous improvement principle of 'Plan Do Check Act'.
