A narrative on what is meant by Fake News and Disinformation in the literature accompanied by a reflection on the need for a multidisciplinary approach moving from a comparison with the past, namely the 1940s, and 1950s, when Wiener founded cybernetics (1948) and C.P. Snow advocated collaboration between “The two cultures” in his Rede Lecture (1959). The last part is devoted to a discussion of the role for libraries and librarians in the debate and the ethical commitments for the profession.
