Abstract

In the contemporary urban centers, suburbs and in general living spaces are affected by the lack of an identity and desire to promote the context and its inhabitants. The intervention on public space becomes a way for reconquer the trust that the inhabitants have of their territory; an element of pride and promotion of the values of the community that is realized in the sharing of spaces. Designing public spaces, with a view to urban regeneration, today becomes more than ever the synthesis of a complex process aimed at capturing the needs and identities coming "from below", putting a system of territorial history, culture (material and immaterial) and nature (the context). This process can take place through timely and skilful interventions in the nerve centers. The experience of the Madrid collective Boa Mistura is a clear and effective example of the best practice in this regard. The reinterpretation of the history, the signs and the culture of a place, channelled into an intervention that makes use of visual experience (in particular of color) highlights how it is possible to effect effective urban regeneration to economic, environmental and consumer impacts soil equal to 0, a very effective solution (ex. La plaza de la Piramide in Segovia, Spain). Starting from these stimuli, the paper becomes an opportunity to reflect on the theme of the identity of places in the processes of urban regeneration.
