In restoration of cultural heritage field, it has been developed nanoparticles coatings having multifunctional features to protect stone artifacts against environmental degrading agents. The nanoparticles concentration detection within the coating can represent a challenging issue because its monitoring over time can provide insights about the treatment durability. The “sample” under consideration consists in marble coated by amorphous silica in which nanoparticles are dispersed. The technique is based on the measurement of the interaction of the electromagnetic fields with the coated surface. It has been shown the possibility to estimate the thickness of the protective coating and the concentration of nanoparticles contained in it. The focus of this work is to determine the best electromagnetic parameters of the nanoparticles core.

Abstract
