The authors propose an interpretive hypothesis for the occurrence of a number of clay anchors and clay spindle whorls inside a narrow chamber of the Tas-Silġ “sanctuary” dating to the Baħrija period (11th-8th centuries BC). Although these objects may result from textile production carried out within the “sanctuary”, it seems likely that such a concentration testifies a symbolic activity of some kind, perhaps a votive deposition.
