The Istat project on EMOS internships is now in the implementation phase of the first wave, and an overall assessment of the programme has to be carried out in order to better organize next waves. The involvement of Istat will probably increase in the near future, as a fourth Italian university is going to become part of the EMOS network. Furthermore, awareness and knowledge of the EMOS curriculum should get rising among students at Pisa, Florence and Rome universities, and any increase in the number of enrolments would imply a growing number of candidates for internships. In that case, the investment in terms of human resources and organizational effort could increase significantly. The programme will be sustainable only in a win-win-win situation, where NSI, students and Universities can find their return in pursuing this activity. Satisfaction at the end of the internship is the first step, but more long-term aspects have to be taken into account, among them added value brought by interns’ contributions to the production of OS, employability for EMOS graduates, actual enrichment of the academic CV.
