The Business Systems Laboratory Symposia is a set of conferences aiming to address the global economic and social challenges of our time from a systemic perspective and to shed light on several interactions between natural social and economic systems. This multidisciplinary perspective includes management, psychology, economics, engineering, and sociology. Triggered by economic evolution dynamics, management approaches have been reconsidered including a systemic perspective for the study of business systems. Thenew systemic approaches for the study of business systems are then characterized by the inclusion of the several interactions between natural social and economic actors in a multidisciplinary perspective that includes management, economics, engineering, and sociology. The criticalities and opportunities of these interactions are faced according tocutting-edge research and practice in social science, aimed at providing a set of principles and facilities that can particularly have catalytic effects on today’s most pressing social and economic issues, thus enhancing influence in global business. These proceedings are based on research papers gathered from the 4th Business Systems Laboratory International Symposium 2016—“Governing Business Systems. Theories and Challenges for Systems Thinking in Practice”—held in Vilnius (Lithuania) on August 24–26, 2016. The 4th BSLab Symposium focused on the epistemological, theoretical, methodological, technical, and practical advancements in the theory and practice of governing business systems, which can be useful to address present and future challenges in global business scenarios.
