The aim of this article is to promote the idea that at the basis of a sustainable system there must be a cultural paradigm shared in society. Regarding universities, sustainability in academic environment may be ambivalent: it may describe its internal organization processes; otherwise, it may refer to a series of steps useful to spread a culture of sustainability. For this reason, as also pointed out by Europe 2020 program, it is proposed that university, through the third mission, may increase the share of resources for the creation of a culture of sustainability
