The ignition of a laser fusion target is essentially due to the energy that the α-particles yielded by the D-T reactions in a small innerhot-spot transfer to the outer cold and dense plasma. It is shown that, if the plasma temperature is ≤ 30 keV, the problem of α-particle energy transport reduces, in good approximation, to the solution of a single diffusive equation for the kinetic-energy density of the α-particles. This method is favourably compared with other models and is included in a 1D Lagrangian code.
