The research work focused on Private Public Partnerships in the regulatory framework of the European Union and on their possible evolutions in the years to come. In particular, I was concerned with the problem of private capital involvement in utilities management, investigating innovative approaches such as the possibility of "tricephal partnerships" involving the local community's participation in classical public-private partnership schemes, or of the involvement of non-profit entities in the management of public interest goods. My study was consistent with the academic background of the aforementioned. The issue was analysed under a broad multidisciplinary perspective, which sinergically included legal, economic and social aspects. It also included an application case with regard to the management of the water sector, both in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and in Italy, with the aim to compare different modes of management of the service of economic interest and to define the success factors and failures of a private rather than public management of water resources.
