Metodo e forma. Saggio, Raffaelli

The dissertations examined were elaborated at twenty years of each other. The one dealing with organizational and methodological aspects and the other formal aspects of architecture. The apparent contrast is progressively removed from the fact that both the theses clearly pose a didactic and formative intent. It is important for the authors to illustrate "how to tackle" their respective themes concretely. It emerges, in the end, that between the two texts there is no conflict, rather complicity, while dealing with different topics. In the case of Antonino Saggio, the planning process is explicit: the relationship between research and design is investigated and offers us suggestions, ideas, information and methods. The design action is also developed and supported through enunciative and cognitive levels. Baires Raffaelli bases his work on formal research, through "exemplary projects", which are investigated with categories of formal research, such as mass, matter, surface, serial compositions and many others. There are also many formal choices consistent with plastic recruitment, as well as contradictory choices with the starting assumptions. Showing a non-coherent or incorrect formal choice has, in fact, an undoubted effectivenes consequence in the didactic and communicative work.

Le dissertazioni prese in esame sono state elaborate a distanza di vent’anni l’una dall’altra. L’una tratta degli aspetti organizzativi e metodologici e l’altra degli aspetti formali dell’architettura. L’apparente contrasto è progressivamente allontanato innanzitutto dal fatto che entrambe le tesi si pongono con chiarezza un intento didattico e formativo. Importa agli autori illustrare “come affrontare” concretamente i rispettivi temi. Emerge, alla fine, che tra i due testi non c’è conflittualità, piuttosto complicità, pur trattando di argomenti diversi. Nel caso di Antonino Saggio, l’iter progettuale è esplicito: i rapporti tra ricerca e progettazione vengono indagati operativamente e si forniscono suggerimenti, idee, informazioni e metodi. L’azione progettuale è, inoltre, sviluppata e sostenuta grazie a livelli enunciativi e conoscitivi. Baires Raffaelli fonda il suo lavoro sulla ricerca formale, attraverso “progetti esemplari”, che vengono indagati con categorie proprie della ricerca formale, quali massa, materia, superficie, composizioni seriali e molte altre. Vengono, inoltre, evidenziate tanto scelte formali coerenti con gli assunti plastici, quanto scelte contraddittorie con gli assunti di partenza. Mostrare anche una scelta formale non coerente o errata ha, infatti, un’indubbia conseguenza nell’efficacia didattica e comunicativa del lavoro.
