The history of Retranslation practice is long and problematic. Despite of its importance, however, the study of this subject was often limited to the analysis of reception and impact of the retranslations on the audience of the target language. In the field of Translation Studies the interest about the subject arises rather late, precisely with the 1990 special issue of the review Palimpsestes and the contributions of Paul Bensimon and Antoine Berman. These early studies focused on the concept of “aging” of translations, i.e. a change of the target language, and on its linguistic motivations. In the subsequent studies were however highlighted other reasons ˗ editorial, translational, social ˗ which can lead to retranslate a text. Following this line of studies, in this paper I analyze a corpus of Latin American narrative of the Sixties translated in Italian, and retranslated later between the Nineties and the first decades of the New Millennium.
