The Vatican Library preserves a manuscript (1330s) containing the 'Satirica Ystoria' by the Franciscan Paulinus Venetus. The fol. 210v is illustrated with a drawing portraying "Mahumet" and "Cadiga" (i.e. Khadija, Muhammad's first wife). The image illustrates a passage from the text referring to the "Tempora Heraclii Gesta Mahumet et Saracenorum" (the episode is narrated, with some variations, in many Western sources). What is really interesting is that the Paulinus' illustration is the most ancient depiction of Muhammad and Khadija, in both Western and Islamic manuscripts (they are depicted first time in Islamic manuscripts in two codices of the Qisas al-anbiya' by Nishapuri, Iran, 1570-1580).

Abstract
The Vatican Library preserves a manuscript (1330s) containing the 'Satirica Ystoria' by the Franciscan Paulinus Venetus. The fol. 210v is illustrated with a drawing portraying "Mahumet" and "Cadiga" (i.e. Khadija, Muhammad's first wife).
