In Towards a philosophy of photography the media theorist Vilém Flusser analyses some photographs of the war in Lebanon of 1982. According to his theory, technical images are not objective, but the complex result of a construction, which is partially out of our control, since the data is elaborated by the apparatus’ program. Moreover, images have a power on us, affecting our perception of the world and our behaviour. Nevertheless, Flusser thinks that “reality lies within the photograph” and if we want to take back control and learn to see the world differently, we should work on the images. Confronting Flusser’s thought with Pietro Montani’s theory of the authentication of images, the article introduces a photography project about the media representation of the Arab Spring and Ari Folman’s film Waltz with Bashir, about the first Lebanon war, as examples of a work with images which may help us seeing the world differently.

Abstract
